We start by teaming a singer-songwriter and a poet.
Billie Eilish, meet Emily Dickinson. We follow these shiny people into their art, and use the experience to produce our own. 
We’ll spend the majority of our time together sharing original songs and poems. We’re inviting both songwriters and poets, and also poets who want to be songwriters, and also songwriters who wish to stylize their lyrics.
You’ll become a better songwriter by engaging the poets, and you’ll make a better poet by using the tools of successful lyricists.
In short, if you care about writing songs or poems, and you want to get better at it, this is your workshop.
Singers and Poets allows creative writers to play in the space where music and literature collide.

THE PROCESS
The Group class is capped at 4 participants.
I’m offering Solo Consultations for an additional cost.
We spend a third of our time on other artists, the rest on ourselves.

◊ 30 minutes: Listen and Respond
◊ 60 minutes: Workshop Our Original Songs
♦ Each writer submits at least two original songs during the term
♦ Optional offer to professionally record a demo

WHO’S THIS FOR?
This workshop is for poets and songwriters 13-18 years. If you write poems or songs, or both, and you want to get better, this is your workshop. You do not have to play an instrument. It’s great if you do, but not a requirement. You will need to live near enough to South Austin (78745) to attend the weekly meetings.

I am currently teaching English online for LSU and working with private students, while writing and playing songs with the Texas Love Cartel.
As a songwriter I’ve published with the Dash Kizer Experience, my Brett Allen Reeves (B.A.R.) Band, Cash Cooper, Alexander and the Nobles, and the Texas Love Cartel.
Here are some of my songs:

I published poems in little magazines during the 1990s, pre-Internet, in places like Element, Lucky Tiger Press, and Cafe Armageddon.
Here is one of my poems. This is something I did a few years back that emphasizes lyricism.
I have included the first full draft so you can see how it progressed. I focused revisions on strengthening the rhythm and rhyme.
